Great question .. I’m still trying to figure that out now. I was a religious Bet The Board podcast listener. They provided excellent analytical break downs, depth chart/injury news, game script narrative, coordinators, etc. You could really read between the lines of what they were saying and get ‘behind the scenes’ info in addition to advanced stats and picks. The loss of that podcast ended any real value from the entire space imo. But the 10 years of it helped shape a lot of how I go about what I do.What podcasts do you listen to?
I make my own spread numbers + power ratings but not weekly prop numbers. I honestly listen to a lot of the fantasy sports and DFS guys for week-to-week match up advantages and who is valued/undervalued in that market even though I do not play DFS. I have areas of teams in mind to target and players on teams who are gaining in opportunity share / efficiency, etc and look to see if the market has caught up. I also survey all of the books for stuff like - Garrett Wilson 59.5 somewhere but 65.5 somewhere else. That’s not an auto play but another feather in the cap if I like Garrett Wilson that week and can get him discounted somewhere.
The Bear Bets guys are better at college than NFL but they are entertaining. I don’t find any other betting content entertaining so I listen to them. They put out 2 or 3 college pods per week and 1 NFL pod.
I listen to Raybon and Stuckey of Action Network Wednesday podcast that features the Sunday 6 pack. They each pick 3 games. They skew towards underdogs.
Raybon and Koerner are wildly successful fantasy/DFS projection guys so I like to pick up some intel on positional/player matchups from them. They put out several weekly podcasts under the Fantasy Flex banner. Stuckey is sometimes solid on underlying statistics. I don’t spend much time listening to anything else AN puts out but haven’t liked any of the other stuff there that I have heard. The baseball guy is a total zero imo.
Matt Harmon does a lot of great research and description on WR utilization and matchups. He’s over at Yahoo.
Brad Powers is one of the best college football guys out there. He does CFB podcasts with a total loser, so putting up with him is tough but still a valuable listen if you are into CFB.
Todd Furham (1/2) of the BTB podcast mentioned above, the lesser half but still a good voice in the space, does a quick hitter with someone else under the Covers umbrella once per week. Not great but I listen to Todd.
Ultimately, I’m seeking information from a lot of places to try and change my formulated opinion. If I don’t hear it or if literally everyone is going the same direction as me, that’s valuable to know. I don’t just tail people ever and I recommend everyone else to not do the same. Information is king. Anyone can say Giants +6 or Lions -7, etc.
Don’t know if that helps but every week is different. Happy to share more about what I do specifically but right now that’s a lot of what I try to listen to.
